US-based medical school coming to Trinidad: PM Kamla

A note from Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar:

Ensuring the Health of our Citizens
For far too long our country has grappled with a shortage of health care professionals.

To alleviate this unacceptable situation, Cabinet has agreed to grant Atlantic Educational Services LLC, a US-based educational services company approval for the establishment of the Pearl Atlantic University (PAU), the first phase of which will see the construction and operation of a medical school.

Local students enrolled in the proposed Pearl Atlantic University would have access to the Government Assistance for Tertiary Education (GATE) funding, subject to the accreditation of the University.

The doctors provided by the University for the training of its medical students would be allowed to work in the public health institutions during their non-teaching hours at no cost to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago.

Once accredited, it is envisioned that Pearl Atlantic University will partner with COSTAATT to align the curriculum of both institutions in a manner that would allow the University to offer advanced degrees in new fields of study to COSTAATT graduates.
