Ambassador Neil Parsan and his family with President Obama during a recent visit to the White House |
Parsan would co-chair the event with his counterpart from Botswana. Twenty other countries are in the host committee.
The Theme is Peace, Unity and Diplomacy.
The ball is one of several taking place in the American capital to mark the formal beginning of the second Obama administration.
There will be just two official inaugural balls that the president and first lady are anticipated to attend. The Commander-In-Chief’s Ball, started by President George W. Bush, is for members of the U.S. military. The Inaugural Ball is for the general public.
Both events will be held throughout the Walter E. Washington Convention Center on Mount Vernon Square. The public can request tickets for the Inaugural Ball at the event's official site. The tickets are priced at $60 and requesting tickets does not guarantee entrance to the event.
