Hochoy Charles says he is not part of a PNM plan to split votes and allow the People's National Movement (PNM) to win the January 21 Tobago House of Assembly election.
Charles, who is a former Chief Secretary, is running a full slate of 12 candidates in the election under the banner of his party - The Platform of Truth (TPT).

He has stated that he is running an independent campaign. And when PNM leader Keith Rowley suggested that the PNM and the TPT could work together, Charles was quick to declare that he won't be partnering with the PNM.
He also denied that he party received money from the PNM.

Talk of a possible PNM/TLP alliance came from Rowley who said on Sunday if Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar could join with Ashworth Jack to “ruin the country,” then he could “join with Hochoy Charles and Ramesh Lawrence Maharaj to build this country.”
Charles scoffed at that, saying the PNM does not care about Tobago and accused Rowley of trying to boost his party's campaign. "We are saying that the PNM ought not to be here. They are irrelevant to these elections," Charles said.
