UNC pledges greater service to the people in 2013

Message from UNC Chairman, Jack Warner.

The year 2012 is history. Looking back, the year past was one of challenges and triumphs for our twin-island nation.

There were times that tested the resilience of our people. For example, 2012 saw unprecedented levels of destruction to homes and infrastructure as a result of natural disasters.

The continuing global financial slump made it an up-hill struggle to keep our economy going.........but we did!

The resources of the State were pushed to the limits as the things left undone by the last administration approached their tipping point. Such things included outstanding public sector wage increases, repairs to and expansion of the infrastructure, lowering of the cost of goods, services and food, and addressing the situation of the socially vulnerable - all of which we overcame.

These challenges brought out the best in us as a People as we came to the aid of our brothers and sisters in distress, as we found creative ways to create jobs and generate business, and as we put our shoulders to the wheel to fix our country, especially where doing so required sacrifice, understanding and patience.

This is how we triumphed in 2012. This is the spirit that shone in our Olympic athletes who brightened the rainiest days of the year.

As we reflect on 2012, we cannot escape the unparalleled development that is taking place throughout the length and breadth of the country, unrolling the neglect and hardship that festered for decades, especially in our rural districts.
So as we close 2012, we can be satisfied that it was a good year overall.

And as we enter 2013 we must resolve to keep our country moving in the forward direction.

The year ahead will not be without challenges. But what we will face in 2013 will be nothing to which we are unaccustomed and therefore we must not be daunted. In fact, we must press ahead with greater confidence and in doing so we will lengthen our stride because in 2013 the work continues and so does the progress of national development.

My Party's New Year resolution is to serve our country more and so I urge all citizens to join with us. Let us work harder so that we will make this country a better place for everyone.

On behalf of the Political Leader of the UNC, the Honourable Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, the National Executive, officials and membership of the UNC, and on my own behalf and that of my family, I wish every citizen a Happy and Prosperous 2013.

Jack Warner | Chairman
