"For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Saviour, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be the sign to you.
You will find the babe wrapped in swaddling cloths lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying Glory to God in the highest. And on earth peace and goodwill toward men." Luke 2: 11-14
The birth of Jesus Christ, which occurred some 2,000 years ago, is seen by Christians the world over, as one of God's greatest, if not the greatest gift bestowed on mankind. Through Christ's birth and subsequent death and resurrection, we were given the hope of salvation and everlasting life.
When the three wise men came to see the Christ child, they brought gifts of gold, frankincense and myrrh. It has therefore emerged over time that in this festive and holy season we tend to be filled with what we call the spirit of Christmas and tend to be more giving and charitable to our fellowman.
While undoubtedly, we tend to look forward to giving and receiving beautifully wrapped presents, there are priceless gifts that lay within us which, if given and received in the spirit of the season, will bear fruit throughout the year and help build our nation.
It is my sincere wish that we allow the gift of honesty to prevail over lies and deception; that we embrace the gift of respect over disrespect and disdain; that we practise forgiveness instead of vindictiveness; that we ensure the gift of kindness takes precedence over wickedness; and that the principles of love, justice and equal rights reside strongly within each and every one of us as individuals and over our nation as a whole. If this is done, we will give T&T the gift of a greater sense of readiness to face whatever challenges that lay ahead.
On behalf of the leadership and members of the People's National Movement I wish each and every one a safe, happy and holy Christmas and a bright and prosperous New Year.
