Moore says THA has not accounted for $29M

Justice Minister Christlyn Moore
Justice Minister Christlyn Moore on Tuesday accused Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Orville London of maladministration of Tobago’s affairs for the past 12 years.

Speaking in the Senate, on an opposition motion calling on the Government to reaffirm its commitment to the principles and practice of democracy, Moore said the 2005 Auditor General's report shows that the THA did not account for $29 million.

She said London had been keeping millions of dollars as unspent balances and then claiming the PP Government was not allocating sufficient funds for its projects.

Moore spoke about last week's Tobago Day held at the PNM's Balisier House headquarters in Port of Spain and said that shows the PNM controlled THA has treated Tobagonians with contempt. Moore said the PNM insulted the people of Tobago by bringing them to Trinidad and seving them “cold food and hot beers.”

She also took a turn on racial fear mongering in Tobago. Reports say PNM activists in Tobago are spreading rumours that if the Tobago Organisation of the People (TOP) wins the THA election it would encourage Indians to take over the island.

Moore also slammed the THA for what failing to complete several projects, including the Tobago hospital, after some seven years.

In addition, the Tobago-born Moore said the recently-opened Financial Complex has no toilet facilities and people using the building have to go to a nearby restaurant to use toilets there.
