Letter: Rowley at Divali nagar is pure politics

Well, well! Wonders never cease!

They say what eh meet you eh pass you yet! I mentioned that because I'm seeing where Dr Rowley and his wife, Sharon, presented themselves at the opening of the Diwali Nagar 2012, as if to suggest they belong/fit in there.

It's all part of the Rowley makeover, it seems. But, as his almost-namesake (Romney) just learnt, no amount of makeover would/could make up for incorrigible defects.

As a dougla, I take great pride more naturally than many in the best of both major worlds Trinidad and Tobago has to offer. That means I push away those who are bent on driving wedges between the different ethnic groups and embrace those working tostrengthen the glue that binds us and makes us unique.

Bluntly speaking, Rowley and his wife fall in the former category. His record is there to speak for itself (no need for me to detail it here as it would take up too much space); and she, apparently, is his dutiful wife, so whatever he has accomplished professionally she has had a great part in making it possible, so cannot escape its pips or pitfalls.

To the organizers of Diwali Nagar I have this to say: the event is supposed to be free of controversy, therefore, having been entrusted to organize, great care must be taken in compiling the invitees' list.

Over the past several months, we have seen and heard of Dr Rowley's attitude towards Indo-Trinbagonians. All things considered, it's an attitude that doesn't sit well with Indo-Trinbagonians at all. So, to have invited him to Diwali Nagar was tantamount to the Mahatma personally inviting Brigadier-General Reginald E.H. Dyer to Jallianwala Bagh knowing his intention was to massacre.

All the same, he was invited; he went. I hope Mother Lakshmi's Light settled on him while he was there and will remain with him so that every patriot would see him for what he is no matter what form he takes in future.

As for me, Rowley and his folks don't fool me any. They would do anything to get their hands on the Treasury.
