The Foreign Minister is in Santo Domingo attending a Cariforum meeting. He said the hunger strike is receiving international attention and giving the country a bad name as a “decadent society.”
He made it clear that he was not raising the substantive issues in the matter of the highway to Point Fortin but in the humanitarian issue raised during the two week hunger strike.
“As a Government we must understand that such a fast emanates from deep spirituality and as such represents the soul of human endeavour,” Dookeran said. “We want the Prime Minister to give a verbal or written undertaking that she would conduct this independent review,” he added.
