Warner, protective services personnel agree on anti-crime measures

Minister of National Security Jack Warner on Saturday met for 12 hours to top members of the protective services and worked out the details of 52 new anti-crime measures, the Newsday newspaper reported.

The paper said Warner told its reporter that the meeting was fruitful and the anti-crime measures will be officially documented and forwarded to Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar, who is head of the National Security Council.

The persons attending the meeting included:

• Acting Police Commissioner Stephen Williams
• Deputy Commissioner Mervyn Richardson
• Chief of Defence Staff Brigadier Kenrick Maharaj
• Colonel Phillip Spencer
• President of the Police Social and Welfare Association, Anand Ramesar, Secretary of the Police Social and Welfare Association, Sgt Michael Seales
• Captain Mark Williams, of the Trinidad and Tobago Coast Guard 

The paper said Warner expressed concerns about the surge in the murders and asked Williams to use all their resources to bring down crime. Five persons have been killed since Friday night, bringing the country's murder toll for the year to 292, Newsday said.

The paper said Warner was particularly concerned about the state of gang related crime in the Laventille area.
