The Office of the Prime Minister (OPM) issued a media release Monday expressing "sadness" at learning of the death of former Senator Mohammed Faisal Rahman. He was an opposition senator in the 9th Parliament.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar said, "On behalf of the Government and people of Trinidad and Tobago, I extend sincere condolences to his family on the passing of a dedicated son of the soil. May he rest in peace."
Rahman first entered Parliament on December 17, 2007 where he participated in more than 60 debates. He was a prolific writer and commentator who wrote that he considered it "an honour and a privilege to have served in the Senate."
MF, as he was known, debated bills including the Anti-Terrorism (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill, 2010, the Caribbean Court of Justice Headquarters Bill, 2008, the Children’s Authority (Amendment) Bill, 2008, the Family Court Bill, 2009 and the Integrity in Public Life (Amendment) Bill, 2009 among many others.
