Vernon De Lima said on Tuesday he has resigned from the executive of the Congress of the People (COP) but remains a member of the party. He held the post of vice chairman.
On Sunday the party voted down De Lima's motion asking the party to leave the governing People's Partnership coalition if Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar did not fire National Security Minister Jack Warner. De Lima had promised to quit the executive of the motion failed.
De Lima stated on Tuesday morning he advised COP Chairman Joseph Toney of his decision on Monday night. He followed that up in writing.
He told local media that "for the time being" he would remain a member of the COP because he remains committed to the people of Trinidad and Tobago.
