Trinidad & Tobago extended a warm welcome Tuesday to Nigerian President Dr Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, who arrived at Piarco International Airport for the start of a two-day state visit that coincides with the celebration of Emancipation Day.
The president is leading a team of more than 80 state officials. A Nigerian Air Force plane carrying the seal of the President of Nigeria brought the visitors to Trinidad. Jonathan, his wife Dame Patience, and the team were welcomed by the heads of the three levels of the country leadership:
- President George Maxwell Richards and his wife, Dr Jean Ramjohn-Richards
- Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and members of her Cabinet
- Chief Justice Ivor Archie
- House Speaker Wade Mark
- Senate President Timothy Hamel-Smith
The welcoming party also included Nigeria's High Commissioner to Trinidad and Tobago Musa John Jen, other members of the diplomatic corps and other officials.
