T&T recalls Geneva ambassador

The government of Trinidad & Tobago has recalled its Ambassador to the United Nations, in Geneva, Therese Baptiste-Cornelis.

A statement from Minister of Foreign Affairs Winston Dookeran stated that the Ambassador's tour of duty will end in September. Communications Minister Jamal Mohammed confirmed on Thursday that she is coming home.

Mohammed said that Baptiste-Cornelis will meet with Dookeran on September 3.

Baptiste-Cornelis sprung into the limelight after she delivered a lecture in June in Geneva on cultural diversity in which she made several "undiplomatic statements" after her personal life and her life as minister of health in the T&T Government.

It's the second time that Baptiste-Cornelis has been removed from a top post. She was fired as Minister of health in the first cabinet shuffle in June 2011 and appointed to the Geneva post.

Former National Security Minister John Sandy is among persons being considered for the Geneva diplomatic post. Sandy was removed from his ministerial portfolio in the June 2012 changes to cabinet.
