T&T government gives each mosque $5,000 for Eid

The government of Trinidad Trinidad & Tobago has donated $5,000 to each mosque in the country for the celebration of Eid and each of the three Muslim organisations in the country has received $350,000.

On Friday Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissesssar presented a cheque for $350,000 to The Trinidad Muslim League's (TML) general secretary, Dr Nasser Mustapha.

She did it at an Eid dinner attended by some of her cabinet ministers including Communications Minister Jamaal Mohammed, Tertiary Education Minister Fazal Karim, Public Utilities Minister Nizam Baksh and Deputy House Speaker Neela Khan.

The other Muslim organisations to get the same amount of money are ASJA and TIA. The Government also presented $5,000 cheques to all mosques in Trinidad. 

Mustapha said the TML would invest the money in refurbishing its Islamic Centre and in building a new reference library, conference room and auditorium.
