The $10m constituency development fund is slated to take off in the next financial year.
Dr. Rowley and the opposition are very vexed about it even though opposition MPs will benefit from it to the same extent as the government MPs. They are upset because they say it's a slush fund.
What's the matter? Can't opposition MPs trust themselves when given control of taxpayers' money and told to use it to the benefit of taxpayers?
Look, if I was the Prime Minister, in opposition controlled constituencies I would bypass the MPs and give the money directly to genuine NGOs! I'd also dismantle URP totally and redirect the saved money towards the new operation, because, frankly, for many years now, there is little evidence URP is alive or kicking although URP has been gobbling up over $400m of our money every year.
