Controversial traffic plan in POS ends August 31

The Ministry of Works announced on Monday that its experimental Traffic Scheme will end on independence day, August 31, instead of September 3 as previously announced.

In a media release the ministry said this means that the last day for the controversial plan to be in effect is Thursday.

From Friday 31st August 2012, all measures and restrictions that constituted this Experimental Scheme shall no longer be in force, the ministry stated.

The end of the experimental plan means all previous traffic rules in St. James, Woodbrook and Newtown would be reinstated to what existed before the plan went into effect.

The ministry said it would continue to review the traffic arrangements in West Port of Spain with a view to determining what future action needs to be taken to relieve congestion and enhance travel times.
