CBC news broadcast a story Wednesday about an incident on a Caribbean Airlines (CAL) flight from Toronto to Jamaica. The reporter said she was unable to get a comment from the airline, noting that it was likely because it was a holiday at the airline's head office in Trinidad.
The CBC based its story on video from a phone and an interview with one woman.
The story had no reference to an intervention by Jamaican Reggae artist Luciano, who apparently offered to help. CAL said Luciano calmed the woman so there was no need to restrain her. On Thursday, the airline commented on the matter. In an interview with local media, CAL Communications Manager for Caribbean Airlines Clint Williams denied claims that the crew did nothing to stop the erratic woman.
He said the crew would have physically restrained the woman. However they didn't because Jamaican entertainer, Luciano, intervened and offered to help.

"Luciano, who was on the flight, he just didn't particularly want to see her end up in physical restraints. In fact, as soon as he sat with the woman, he left his seat and he went and sat with her, and he was able to calm her down quite quickly and she remained calm for the balance of the flight," Williams told the state television station, CNMG.
He added, "While there are guidelines and while there are procedures, you still always have to make a judgement call and in this case, we are very happy that the situation was brought under the control without the use of physical restraints which is always such a terrible thing for all involved."
Williams said CAL is conducting an internal investigation.
