COSTAATT president sent on leave; audit ordered

The Board of the College of Science, Technology and Applied Arts of Trinidad and Tobago (COSTAATT) has sent the institution's president, Emmanuel Gonsalves, on "administrative leave" for six months, the Trinidad Express reported on Tuesday.

It said the COSTAATT board of trustees has also ordered an audit into all operations at COSTAATT with a directive that no documents are to be shredded. The paper said there is extra security in place to make sure that documents are secure.

Gonsalves was appointed to head the state institution by the previous Manning PNM administration on September 1, 2008. His leave began last Friday and staff were informed of the board's decision via internal email, the paper said.

It said no formal announcement has been made about who will replace Gonsalves. However the paper said its sources have said Dr Gillian Paul, vice president of Academic Affairs at COSTAATT, is expected take charge. Paul served as interim Chief Executive Officer of COSTAATT from September 2002 to June 2004.

The COSTAATT board of trustees is currently chaired by Dr Allan McKenzie, head of the Department of English and Communication at the University of the West Indies School of Business Studies.

Minister of Tertiary Education, Fazil Karim, is responsible for COSTAATT.

UNC just making an excuse to fire the man because he was appointed by PNM. He is the man who placed and developed COSTAATT to what it is today. I cannot say the same for his replacement. When she was CEO there was rampant thiefing (check auditor general report). And you know this lady is one of those rejected PNM. UNC people please don't replace good with refuse. Like UNC don't have they own people to lead?
