Mom facing murder charge in death of 2-year-old gets $75,000 bail

Candice Johnson appeared in court Monday charged with the murder of her two year old daughter Aaliyah Johnson on Easter Sunday. 

She was granted $75,000 bail and told to return to court on May 14th 2012. However, media reports said the woman was unable to meet the bail conditions and was remanded in custody until her next court date.

Police have released a 23-year-old man who was assisting them with the investigation.

The woman is reported to be pregnant. Police say she confessed to severely beating the child.

An autopsy found that the the toddler died from blunt force trauma to the abdomen which resulted in acute internal blood loss. The blow ruptured Aaliyah's liver, causing her to bleed to death.

Aaliyah was buried on Saturday, following a service at the La Divina Pastora RC Church in Siparia.
