Rowley won't "buss any mark" Friday; will demand answers from government

Opposition Leader Keith Rowley told supporters in Central Trinidad Monday he won't "buss any mark" in Parliament on Friday. He said the purpose of his no confidence motion is to address what he called Government's misconduct since assuming office.

Rowley also dismissed a suggested by Congress of the People (COP) political leader Prakash Ramadhar that he should resign if the motion fails. He called COP a "bunch of hypocrites" who are trying to protect their jobs.

He also criticised members of the United National Congress (UNC) who have called said he should resign if the motion is defeated.

"That is foolishness," he said. "The UNC had debated several no-confidence motions against the PNM and all failed. Did anybody resign? And in 2010 Kamla Persad-Bissessar, then leader of the Opposition, had failed in her bid to have a no-confidence motion passed. Did she resign?"

The 2010 motion that Rowley mentioned was on the order paper but was never debated because then Prime Minister Patrick Manning dissolved Parliament before the debate took place.

Rowley also told supporters not to go to Port of spain to support the party on Friday. "Stay at home and watch your television or listen to the radio. The party is not mobilising anyone to come to Port of Spain," he said.

Rowley said he is not concerned with who will support the motion. "What I know is that every member of the Opposition PNM will be voting in favour of the motion."

If that is so there will be 11 votes in support of the motion. The other PNM MP is Patrick Manning, who is on medical leave following the stroke he suffered in late January.
