I have this unfortunate feeling that everything in our country is spiraling downwards, out of control. And I am not alone in this.
We are seeing it in all the commentaries, feeling it in different aspects of our lives, and watching a government beginning fall apart. And we have no options available for governance.

The official opposition PNM is universally acknowledged as a pathetic failure which had overseen the deterioration of our infrastructure, which had literally sponsored the growth of violent crime, and wasted money on glass buildings’ “bling” even as they told the labour movement that wage increases were being denied because that would fan inflation.
But I do not intend to deal with them anymore than to keep reminding “short-memory Trinis” that it is the PNM, the same Manning, Rowley, Imbert, Hinds, Cox, Al Rawi et al who have us in this recession, crimewave, confusion and benign anarchy.
Just like in 1986, we voted the PNM out of office in 2010 far more than we voted in any UNC, COP, or Partnership. And it seems that our “short-memory representatives” (as Jack Warner recently pointed out; they are there to “represent us”, not to satisfy their egos, their friends and their bank accounts) have forgotten this.
Last week I wrote about the Prime Minister losing her direction, she who gave us the mantra “Serve the people, serve the people, serve the people”, and walked the flooded lands when she was elected. But more and more, this good lady seems to be taking the advice of persons who are not following the mantra. It appears that many of them have retreated, all too easily and comfortably, into the old UNC Mantra: “We turn now.”
The communities of Matelot and Blanchisseuse, remain partially and wholly cut off from the rest of the nation. They need the restoration of their roads and bridges, and this is not any sort of handout or gift to come from any government.

Yes, we all know that years of neglect (where NAPA, the Waterfront, Manning’s Palace and Manning’s Church were priorities ahead of rural roads, water and health care), and bad-mind deforestation are the causes of these road closures and bridge collapses.
For some reason which is not being identified, but where it appears that our Prime Minister is being encouraged (I simply cannot accept that this is her own reasoning!) to prevent the Ministry of Works and its agencies from carrying out the required repairs.

And who is being hurt by this?
Only the people who had suffered for so long under an incompetent and corrupt PNM, and who then voted for a change which was just an illusion. Yes, only the voters are hurting, them and the Prime Minister, who will feel their anger in the next election. What will your advisors say, Kamla, when these constituencies throw you out in 2015?
And if this deliberately spiteful neglect of Blanchisseuse and Matelot were not bad enough, we had this appallingly stupid and mis-communicated issue of the little aeroplane for the Police Service.

Even if Gibbs had the “authority” to lease it, where does this device fit into the overall crime plan? Indeed, what is the crime plan? Is it the desire of your advisors to continuously embarrass you? This is the only conclusion that we can draw. May I offer to spend some time with you all and help you make a plan of what needs to be done in our country, and show you we can proceed? Will your advisors accept this: Putting Country First? Will you accept it, Madam?
We citizens deserve every corrupt, incompetent and outrageous action which our governments have successively laid upon us. In this aspect alone, you all truly “represent” us. You all in parliament represent the sum of all our failings. We have no idea of where we want to go, far less how to travel the road to get there. We have become content to sit and blast our politicians and each other on Face Book all day, all night. We do nothing but whine and wine about the ills—we never bestir ourselves to action.
Last week I saw posts on FB about a T&TEC Transformer leaking oil near Westmall. Oh, the angry posts! People abusing T&TEC, EMA, one even demanding that “someone should tell Kamla”. Tell Kamla what?

So I posted “has anyone called T&TEC?” Everyone “like” that! Nine hours later, I checked. Still angry posts, more abuse for Kamla, but no one had called T&TEC. So I asked them why. Then someone called T&TEC!
Folks, do something, sometimes. T&TEC depends upon you to call them, not FB! And say this for T&TEC: they are a highly “responsive” agency, when called.
There is no hope for your government unless you improve yourself.
