Coalition leaders to meet Thursday: report

The leaders of the People's Partnership are reported to be meeting on Thursday at the Diplomatic Centre to discuss general issues affecting the governing coalition, a report in the Newsday newspaper said.

Newsday said the talks are scheduled to be held after the regular cabinet meeting. Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar will attend as head of United National Congress (UNC) political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar.

Other leaders expected to attend arte Congress of the People (COP) political leader Prakash Ramadhar, Tobago Organisation of the People (TOP) political leader Ashford Jack, Movement for Social Justice political leader designate David Abdullah and the National Joint Action Committee (NJAC)’s Ambassador Makandal Daaga.

The report said there is no specific agenda for the meeting, which will welcome two new leaders - Abdullah and Ramadhar.

Newsday said the leader will deal with the issue of establishing a mechanism to communicate policy matters among the leaders of the coalition. It quoted one unnamed leader as saying, “We are meeting to discuss strategy and the way forward for the new year.”

Persad-Bissessar held an impromptu meeting with Ramadhar, Abdullah, Jack and Daaga at the Diplomatic Centre on January 23.
