Police Commissioner Dwayne Gibbs told reporters Thursday there has been a decrease in serious crimes in the country although homicides are higher than the previous year.
Gibbs spoke with the media as he left an hour-long private evaluation session with the Police Service Commission (PSC).
He did not speak about what transpired at the talks. However Gibbs commented on crime statistics.
He said the statistics show that although they have been 30 murders for 2012 so far, the figure is lower than that of previous years.
He said, “Although there are homicides, the Police Service has seen a decrease in serious crimes and this has not been so in many years.”
He added that there is no need for citizens to be alarmed, noting that much of the criminal activity in the country today is isolated.
Gibbs said police would continue to be as vigilant as they were during last year's State of Emergency.
He told the media police would continually review strategy to ensure that officers are "on top of the crime situation". he said when necessary, police would adjust strategies.
Gibbs said he is satisfied with the effort of his officers and added that if people want him to resign they must show just cause.
