Pandit Parasram School of Hinduism celebrates milestone

The Pandit Parasram School of Hinduism held its 2011 year-end function on the school compound at Exchange Village, Couva on Saturday 14th January 2012.
Pandit Dr Rampersad Parasram
This annual event, which is hosted by the School’s Chairman, Pandit Dr. Rampersad Parasram, is intended for students, parents, friends and well-wishers of the School to spend time together and celebrate the School’s continued success. It is also an opportunity for students to present some of what they have learnt to the wider public.

Students of the Elementary Class recited a Hindi composition of Shri Balbhadra Gupta Rasik entitled ‘Mera Ghar’.

Four female students of the Intermediate Class presented a pretty picture as they sat on the stage with their heads demurely covered and sang Dohas, Choupais and Chandas from Kiskindha kanda of the Ramcharitmanas. Senior class members recited Sanskrit verses from the Durgasaptashati.

Specially invited guests included Mr. Ramnarine Bissoon, President-Kirvek Industries Ltd. and Mrs. Sunita Pahuja, Second Secretary Hindi Education and Culture, High Commission of India.

Mrs. Pahuja commended Pandit Dr. Parasram and his team for their efforts in keeping Hinduism alive. She particularly complimented Dr. Parasram for his fluency in Hindi. She has offered her assistance in training the Hindi teachers of the school.

In his address, the Chairman reflected on the beginnings of the School of Hinduism. He recalled that he started formally teaching some young pundits approximately eight years ago when they asked for his assistance in learning more about Hinduism.

Classes started in the living room of his home and since then the school has grown and is now established at its present location at the Exchange Shiv Mandir Complex.

He referred to the powerful hand of destiny as he recalled that more than 20 years ago he was invited to be the spiritual head of the Exchange Shiv Mandir and since he was unable to accept as a result of other commitments, he had asked Pandit Hardeo Maharaj to undertake the task.

More than 20 years later, the Pandit Parasram School of Hinduism has been established on the same site, with him at the helm of the institution.

Dr. Parasram, commended all those who are interested in learning more about Hinduism as he noted that generally people have become individualistic, materialistic and mechanistic and have little interest in religion and spirituality.

He noted that the price for ignoring religion and spirituality is high and people must take notice before it is too late. He said that the seeds for igniting renewed interest in Hinduism have been planted through the medium of the Pandit Parasram School of Hinduism and hopefully future generations will enjoy the fruits of the current effort.
