A police officer is to be charged with criminal negligence causing the death of Joan Webb, 71, in November last year. It happened on the Priority Bus Route at Bon Air, Arouca.

A marked police Ford Ranger van reportedly broke the traffic light and crashed into a vehicle in which Webb was travelling.

Three officers and two occupants of the other vehicle were treated at hospital for injuries they sustained. 

Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard gave instructions earlier this week for the officer to be charged. The constable, who has not been identified, is assigned to the Maracas/St Joseph Police Station.
