PM's life still under threat: Sandy

National Security Minister John Sandy told reporters on Tuesday the life of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar is still under threat. Sandy said, "We are always at risk...If a life is threatened, no matter what happens, it remains threatened."

Commissioner of Police (CoP) Dwayne Gibbs has expressed the same view.

Gibbs said investigations are continuing into the alleged plot against Persad-Bissessar and three cabinet ministers.

"You have to realise as we go each day into the future, there is always a threat... We want to ensure the safety of those in Trinidad and Tobago."

Sandy dismissed suggestions from reporters that the state of emergency could be considered a failure. "Not at all! Failed? This Government does not know the word failed. No, no, no. I'm sure you will agree with me that it was a resounding success," the minister said.

He also stated that if he had to do it again he would make the same recommendation.

"With the same information we had, then yes, and I maintain that...put it another way, had we not done what we did and not acted, they (detractors) would have said we were irresponsible."

He added, "The State of Emergency was a resounding success. You take into consideration the lives that were saved most importantly, those hundreds of mothers who are not holding their bellies and crying.
"Basically what this has done is save the lives of some of those same people who would have been out there involved in criminal activities."
