The Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar, Prime Minister of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago will travel to India in January 2012 on a State visit as an official Guest of the Government of India at the invitation of Honourable Dr. Manmohan Singh, Prime Minister of India.
As part of her programme, Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar will pay a courtesy call on the President of India, Her Excellency, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil and the Vice President, His Excellency Hamid Ansari.

She will also meet the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh with whom she will hold delegation level talks followed by State banquet in her honour in New Delhi on 6 January 2012. Her programme will include other high level bilateral meetings with the External Affairs Minister and the Leader of the Opposition.
Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar will also attend the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) 2012 being held at Jaipur (Rajasthan) from 7th to 9th January as the Chief Guest.

Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar is the first female Head of Government in the Diaspora and the first dignitary from Trinidad & Tobago to be bestowed with this honour. The theme of PBD-2012 is “Global Indian-Inclusive Growth.”
The PBD is an annual event sponsored by Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs of the Government of India, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and the Government of Rajasthan which aims to promote, nurture and sustain a mutually beneficial and symbolic relationship between India and its Diaspora.

At the PBD convention, there will be a concurrent Trade and Industry Exhibition and a “Market Place” forum providing business networking opportunities for the several hundred global delegates expected to participate in PBD-2012.
Prime Minister Persad-Bissessar’s official business agenda will also include engagements with the Indian private sector and senior Ministers in Rajasthan, Maharastra, and West Bengal.

In Kolkata, West Bengal, the Prime Minister is due to hold discussions with the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee. In Mumbai, Maharastra, the programme of activities will include meetings with senior Government officials and business leaders.
