AG to deal with Nizam's lawsuit

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar told reporters Monday Attorney General Anand Ramlogan will deal with the lawsuit filed last Friday by former Police Service Commission Chairman Nizam Mohammed.

Mohammed is suing over the president's decision last April to revoke his appointment, arguing that the decision was unconstitutional.

President Richards revoked Mohammed's appointment after consultations with the Prime Minister and Leader of the Opposition, both of whom had expressed concern over statements Mohammed had made to a parliamentary committee about the ethnic imbalance in the police service.

On Monday Persad-Bissessar explained to reporters that she had noit seen the legal documents. "I have not seen those proceedings. His Excellency mentioned it to me. I would prefer not to comment until I see them and of course my AG will deal with them appropriately," she said.

"There are matters that you cannot challenge and there are matters that can be challenged. I do not know the content of the litigation that he seeks to bring," she added.
