List of detainees in assassination plot reaches 16; ex US soldier among them

National Security Minister John Sandy signed four more detention orders on Wednesday.

A total of 16 people have now been detained in connection with the plot to assassinate the prime minister and three senior cabinet ministers.

A local media report Thursday stated that a man described by police as an ex-US soldier is one of four other persons who is being held under a detention order signed Wednesday by National Sandy.

The four latest detainees are Ashmeed Mohammed of La Romain; Zaid Abdul Hamid of Longdenville; Dominic Pitilal also called “Jamal”of Cocorite; and Jason Brown also called “Abdool Kareem” of San Juan.

All of the detention orders state the men will be held at the Eastern Detention Correctional and Rehabilitation Centre up until the end of the state of emergency on December 5.

However, the 16 detainees were taken to the Golden Grove Prison for security reasons. The men are expected to be charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act. The detainees are:
