6 police expected in court Tuesday on charges of abusing and torturing three men

Six police officers are to appear before a Chaguanas magistrate Tuesday to answer charges of beating three men in their custody and repeatedly shocking them with a Taser gun.

Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard gave instructions last week for the officers to be charged. But media report suggest that there are some administrative irregularities in the matter.

The reports say up to last Friday the DPP's office had not sent documents to the investigating officer regarding instructions to arrest the six police officers. The reports further state that up to Monday Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of crime, Mervyn Richardson, said he had not been updated on the matter.

The alleged incident involving brothers Randy and Ricardo Youk-See, and neighbour Kyron Baptiste, happened 17 months ago.

The three Tunapuna men claimed that police detained them and took them to the Chaguanas police station where they threatened to kill them. They say the lawmen also beat them and took turns attacking them with a high voltage Taser.
