"It is envisioned that by engaging some 20,000 additional pairs of 'eyes and ears' from the private security industry, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service will be in a position to transmit relevant information for appropriate law enforcement action."
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar made the comment Thursday during her speech at the inauguration of the Third Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Public Security in the Americas, at the Hyatt in Port of Spain.
Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar made the comment Thursday during her speech at the inauguration of the Third Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Public Security in the Americas, at the Hyatt in Port of Spain.
She said it is a part of the plan to enhance public safety and security in Trinidad and Tobago. She added that the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service has embarked on the plan to establish a Private Security Network Commission (PSNC) to facilitate private-public dialogue in policing.
"The PSNC allows for the creation of a forum for inter-agency collaboration, with the end result being the creation of a functional partnership between the Police Service and members of the private security industry," she said.
National Security Minister John Sandy, who also adressed the conference, said a successful campaign against crime requires a multi-faceted, multi-dimensional strategy that involves the collective efforts of all stakeholders.
