PM Kamla sends condolences on death of Rev. Cyril Paul

Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar on Monday issued a statement in which she said she joins the National Community in the expression of her condolences on the passing of Reverend Cyril Paul.

The Prime Minister acknowledged Reverend Paul’s commitment to the service of his Ministry, community, people and country.

She noted that Paul served as Moderator of the Presbyterian Church in Trinidad and Tobago on three occasions for two-year terms. He also served on the Planning Committee of the Barbados Assembly, the World Council of Churches and also on the World Alliance of Reformed Churches.

The statement added, "The Prime Minister also recognized Reverend Paul’s passion in inspiring youthful involvement in the ecumenical movement, where in one of his many interviews Reverend Paul was quoted as stating, “One of our real strengths is the large number of young people in the church, and we keep them through young peoples' groups, making worship appealing, and in my case I try to relate on a one to one basis, no judgments, and I try to learn their language and listen to them. It is the young people who are the real roots and future of the church."

Persad-Bissessar said, “Although it is little consolation at this sad time, it should be of some satisfaction to know that in his passing you can celebrate the end of a very long and productive life.

"The measure of a life well-lived is not in how much one has or what possessions they have accumulated, but rather through the lives they touched and the sorrow they leave behind.

"If the outpouring of sympathy on his loss is any indication, and it most certainly is, you can proudly and confidently say that his indeed was a life well-lived. May his wife, Barbara, family and friends, find peace and comfort in knowing that his loss is felt by all who knew and respected him.”
