The latest information from police on the number of detainees in the State of Emerrgency shows that a total of 1,707 people have been arrested since the emergency was declared on August 21. In the 24-hour period ending Friday morning, police detained 110 persons
Most of the new detainees are being held for serious offences, including drug related offences. At least 21 were wanted on outstanding warrants.
Of the total number of persons detained so far 438 have been arrested on suspicion of having connections to gangs and 37 on homicide charges.
Since the declaration of the emergency security personnel have seized 78 guns, 12,900 rounds of ammunition and 22 magazines have been recovered. Several of the guns are high powered, sophisticated weapons used for assassinations.
On Thursday police found an Uzi machine gun along with 14 other sophisticated weapons and 10,000 rounds of ammunition. Police say several arrests will be made soon in connection with that find.
