I wish to congratulate the Muslim Community for a successful completion of the fast during the Holy Month of Ramadan and to extend to everyone Eid Mubarak.
I recognise and appreciate the patience and tolerance demonstrated by all Muslims who had to adjust their prayer time to accommodate the hours of the curfew because of the State of Emergency. It is a tribute to the Muslim community’s focus on the development of Taqwa over material convenience.
Perhaps the lessons of Ramadan hold more significance than ever before for people of all faiths given the challenges faced by our nation at this time as we seek to create a more disciplined, peaceful and respectful society.
On the day of Eid, Muslims are always reminded to keep two things in mind. Fasting in the month of Ramadan, enabled the believer to ascend closer to the Lord and the moral and social discipline acquired during the Blessed month will result in a person becoming a better people in society.
The Koran teaches that as human beings, we are separate units, but we can feel like one people if we develop love in our hearts for each other. May we all live by these teachings; their values are timeless and so relevant to us today.
Through the lessons of Allah every Muslim and indeed every human being is expected to make a resolution to strive for closeness with Allah and to be a better person, "a beautiful tree" in society.
Our nation is indeed spiritually richer because of the observance of this important day in the Muslim calendar and I feel certain that the prayers of all Muslims and indeed all others during this Holy month would have served to have guided our nation and myself through this period.
Inshallah. May Allah bless you all and may God bless our Nation
