File: June 2011 - JAck Warner and Marlene McDonald with Taxi Drivers who complained about the poor state of roads |
In June this year Works Minister Jack Warner promised to repair the main road linking Laventille and Picton after complaints about the state of the road by the MP for the area Marlene McDonald and taxi drivers who use the road.
At a joint news conference with the opposition MP the minister promised immediate action to deal with the problem.
And he delivered on that promise. On Monday he re-opened the road noting that repairs to the 26 kilometers of roadway cost $3.5 million.
Warner also made the point that his focus on rebuilding the country's crumbling infrastructure is based on need. not politics since the work just completed in an area that has a parliamentary representative from the opposition People's National Movement (PNM).
He said Laventille residents will not suffer because of differences in political loyalties.
McDonald, who was present for the opening, said she is pleased with the timely response and repairs to the bad roads in the area.
In a brief address she urged residents to let the road connecting Piccadilly Street to Picton be a symbol to break down barriers and provide an opportunity for everyone to move forward as a united community.
