A superb unbeaten knock from Man-of-the-Match Sherwin Ganga steered T&T to victory over Sri Lanka in the opening game of the Champions League qualifying tournament, in Hyderabad, India.
Chasing 139 for victory, after restricting the Sr Lankans to 138 all out in their 20 overs, T&T reached 144 for 5 in 18.5 overs. Ganga playyed a winning innings with two sixes and four fours in an unbeaten knock of 39 from just 15 balls.
Ganga hit the winning runs, a six over mid-on, off the penultimate ball of the 19th over. The other unbeaten batsman was Darren Bravo, who made 44 from 49 balls.
In a media release, Warner said: “Your discipline and commitment to the gentleman’s game is certainly responsible for your meteoric rise in the T20 form of the game.
"With unspeakable joy we watched you this morning confident that you will be victorious on the field of play; as a team, you certainly did not disappoint us," Warner stated.
However he reminded the team this "this is just the start of the journey to excellence." He added, "Let me encourage you to remain focused and humble in your efforts to bring glory to Trinidad and Tobago. The entire region is depending on you once again to be the toast of the T20 Cricketing World."
