2,000 Poui trees for T&T highways

Blossoms of a yellow poui form a carpet on the grass at the Savannah
Blooming pink and yellow poui beautify many parts of Trinidad and Tobago, including the Savannah in the heart of Port of Spain.

Soon they will be blooming along the country's highways as well. The Ministry has started planting poui trees across the country.

The plan is for 2,000 trees to be planted on the major highways.

Food Production Minister Vasant Bharath already has the blessing of the Highways Division of the Works Ministry to plant the trees, which have been donated by Canadian businessman Sam Gualbance.

Gualbance is originally from Trinidad & Tobago. He is President of a seafood company in Canada.

The trees will dot the Maraval Parkway, The Audrey Jeffers Highway and parts of The Churchill Roosevelt Highway.
Bharath sees more than physical beauty in the project. He hope citizens will appreciate the environmental importance of trees and encourage the younger population to become more involved in the planting of trees. One of the first trees planted by the minister is a pink poui.
