Keith Rowley stated on Monday that the PNM is not involved in any underhand conspiracy with the labour movement and other groups to create strife and instability.
The Opposition Leader was speaking at a media conference at the Opposition in Port-of-Spain.
“I categorically deny the PNM has anything to do with organising any reaction to the Government’s policies," Rowley told reporters. “We have no hidden agenda. All our political activities are on the table, open and aggressive.”
Rowley said the labour unrest, including the threat of a national strike is a reaction from the collective labour movement to Government’s wage policies.
He said Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and the cabinet imposed a five per cent ceiling, which has brought on the reaction from labour.

“The labour movement has come together and decided to react by saying we will behave in a certain way unless you move this." He insisted that his party is not "responsible for the outcome of the Government’s wage and salaries’ policy.”
Persad-Bissessar met recently with the labour movement and suggested that the ceiing be removed and that all negotiations resume from a starting point of zero. The unions rejected that and declared "war" on the government, with a threat to shut down the country.
Rowley also stated that the Opposition did not support the police action to stay away from work because he considered such action illegal.
