The Ministry of Health has started an aggressive spraying campaign to kill the Aedis Aegypti mosquito, which is the carrier of the dengue virus.
Health Minister Dr Fuad Khan has appealed to citizens to help the authorities and make sure there are no spaces in their immediate surroundings that can provide a breeding ground for the mosquito.
The insect breeds anywhere there is stagnant water so the best precaution is to cover all water barrels and containers and remove any receptacle such as cups, cans and old typres where water can settle and allow the mosquito to lay eggs.
