Letter: PM Kamla - a caring, passionate leader

Most recently the Prime Minister (Trinidad & Tobago) has been criticized for not being compassionate and caring to citizens. I find this to be provocative, highly political and aimed at mischief.

I would dearly like to know what more is expected from the PM by way of compassion. Here are some twenty examples of her compassion and caring:
  1. Is not a lap top for every SEA student compassion and caring so that the poorest child can have equal opportunity?
  2. Are more CEPEP jobs (6000 more) not caring and compassion
  3. Is the Children's Life Fund not a compassionate gesture
  4. Are prosthetic legs as we saw on TV not a COMPASSIONATE GESTURE?
  5. Are more food cards not a compassionate gesture?
  6. Are the cheques distributed to persons within four days whose roofs recently blew off not a compassionate act?
  7. Are more buses for children in rural areas not a compassionate act?
  8. Is not free travel for students in uniforms on buses not a compassionate act?
  9. Is an expanded GATE program not a compassionate act?
  10. Is not the introduction of vocational qualification a compassionate act?
  11. Was not the sending of containers to help victims of flood and hurricane in St Lucia a compassionate act?
  12. Was not the granting of a school for the Baptists a compassionate and caring act?
  13. Is not her visit to Guyana an act of caring for Caricom brothers and sisters?
  14. Is not the building of Early Childhood Centers not an act of compassion and care for the children?
  15. Is not the rebuilding of rural schools in particular an act of caring when so many primary schools were left dilapidated by the PNM?
  16. Is not the replacement of the 29Km water line from Navet to San Fernando which has improved water supplies to over 400,000 persons an act of caring?
  17. Is not the decision to open a branch of UWI in Debe an act of caring?
  18. Is not the decision to build the highway to Pint Fortin and empower the people in South West Trinidad who produce the oil and gas wealth an act of caring?
  19. Is not the decision to light up so many recreation grounds an act of caring?
  20. Is not her emphasis on women and girls in particular and reducing inequality of treatment to them an act of compassion and caring
Really and truly, give us a break from the mischievous dialogue that tries to paint the PM as anything less than a caring and compassionate person and Prime Minister

Sincerely |Chandra Harnanan
