Hinds is claiming that he has a letter from the Integrity Commission stating that the commission is investigating a matter related to the PM with respect to her stay at a private home before and after the 2010 general election.
He said based on the evidence before him it is clear that Persad-Bissessar misled the population when she said last month that the commission that it is not investigating her.
When Hinds made his claim, Persad-Bissessar asked for clarification from the commission. She received a letter the next day - August 4 - in which the commission stated that there are no investigations concerning her.
Based on that assurance she has accused Hinds of telling lies and trying to bring her into disrepute. In that context through her lawyers she demanded an apology. She said if Hinds fails to do that she would proceed with court action against him.
However, Hinds said is standing by his comments. "I stand by the letter. I stand by nobility. I stand on principle. I stand on truth and I have no fear of anyone or anything including the Prime Minister," Hinds told local media.
Hinds is also getting from his party - the People's National Movement (PNM). In a media release Monday the PNM said it stands behind Hinds as "by his action, he ensured that no one is above the law".
