Youth centres coming soon across T&T: Ramdial

The Government of Trinidad and Tobago is planning to establish youth development centres around the country.

Minister in the Ministry of Child Development Youth and Gender Affairs Ramona Ramdial made the statment Wednesday at the opening of the local government office for Councillor Alan Seepersad, the representative for Felicity/Calcutta/McBean in the Couva/Tabaquite/Talparo Regional Corporation.

Ramona is the MP for that area, Couva North.

She said the development centres would cater to students after school hours, would be community-based and cater to children and youth between the ages of 10 and 18.

She added that the focus would be on academics and aesthetic activities.

Minister in the Ministry of Local Government Rudranath Indarsingh, who also attended the event, said the Government plans to establish 134 full-time offices for local government representatives.

He said in the past people were unable to meet their local representatives since they did not have office and regular hours to meet citizens.

That is changing with the state now funding an office and providing essential support for every local government representative in the country.

Indarsingh said the offices of councillors would also be a hub for people seeking information about government services while being able to meet with their councillors on a regular basis.
