Flashback to CLICO problems - from JYOTI's achives

Former minister of finance Karen Nunez-Tesheira claims that someone is trying embarrass her by issuing a subpoena to appear before the commission of enquiry into the collapse of CL Financial and the Hindu Credit Union.

She suggested that this was unnecessary since she had always indicated her willingness to appear and participate in the enquiry.

"Since a subpoena is given when one is reluctant to participate, I cannot understand it. Why else are you subpoenaing me? she asked.

Nunez-Tesheira failed to appear before the commission last week, claiming that there was a misunderstanding over payment of her legal fees.

She was at the centre of the controversial billion-dollar deal to bail out CLICO and was accused of insider trading by then opposition leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar, a charge that she always denied. JYOTI presents below some notable quotes from key players at the time with links to the stories as the CLICO fiasco developed:
