Fire destroys Arima supermarket, other business; no one injured

A fire early Tuesday morning destroyed five businesses at Tumpuna Road, Arima in Eastern Trinidad, including the Cash and Carry Supermarket and Warehouse owned by Ferose Khan.

The Roofman Limited and an ODP warehouse housed on the same compound were also affected by the fire.

Nobody was injured. Khan told reporters, "Insurance will help. I don't think it will ever put you back to exactly where you are supposed to be. We are all alive this morning, nobody is injured and once we have life, we will rebuild."

About 30 people are out of work and Khan has promised to try to absorb him in his other businesses at Chaguanas and Couva.

"I know that there will be some challenges in terms of transport for people to get to Chaguanas and Couva but we will try to see how we can deal with that," he said.

Fire destroyed two businesses last week - Thermo Plas in Trinicity and Mill Industries in Mt Hope.
