Duprey must appear at probe into Clico/HCU

Lawrence Duprey must appear before the the Commission of Enquiry into Clico and the HCU. That the verdict of commissioner Sir Anthony Coleman.

The former CL Financial Chairman had applied for an exemption at the hearing on the grounds that publicity from such an appearance would affect him during his civil trial in a case brought against him by the Central Bank and Clico.

However Sir Anthony Coleman stated Wednesday that a judge alone will conduct the civil trial, which negatives the argument about a decision being influenced by media reports.

Sir Anthony also said Duprey will have protection against self-incrimination in accordance with Section 12 of the Commission of Enquiry Act.

In addition he noted that the Commission's terms of reference do not require it to make any conclusive determinations on whether Duprey did anything wrong.
