Caribbean Airlines (CAL) has given US$500 to each of the passengers who was on the CAL plane that overshot the runway in Guyana on Saturday morning and broke in two.
The Chairman of the airline, George Nicholas III, revealed the details at a media conference at the Piarco International Airport on Sunday shortly after his return from Guyana.

Nicholas flew to Guyana within hours of learning of the crash. He described the money as a "comfort" amount and added that further compensation for injuries would be addressed at a later date.
"It was just so they would be able to buy what they needed as they did not have clothes and some of their belongings. So we provided the comfort amount in dollars so they can go shopping. It was US$500 for each passenger," Nicholas said.
Nicholas added that top officials of the airline will be going to Guyana to address "complicated issues."
He said CAL is very grateful that "God smiled on us" and there were no one died in Saturday's crash.
