PP government moves to Tobago for retreat, cabinet meeting and political rally

The Prime Minister confirmed on Monday that her government will hold a retreat in Tobago this week and that the weekly cabinet meeting will also be held in Tobago.

Kamla Persad-Bissessar also confirmed that a political rally will be held on Saturday in Scarborough to commemorate the first anniversary of Government. It would be the Tobago version of the one held in Chaguanas on May 24.

Speaking at a media briefing at the Diplomatic Centre Persad-Bissessar said Government will engage in a team building exercise for better governance and will spend time reflecting on the past year, analyse the mistakes made and plan the way forward.

"Through experiences over the past year we would have seen areas in which we need to do better, we could see areas we need to explore further so I think this workshop will allow us to develop a greater team building effort in addition for strategic planning for the way forward," she said.

She said there will be no lectures from outside experts.

She also assured reporters that although members of the People's Partnership have differences of opinions, the coalition remains strong.

"For too long we would have had the 'no dog bark' syndrome where you had a total dictatorship in leadership and people are not free to express their views and what happens then everyone ends of arguing with everybody else, the people are stifled," she said, noting that it happened for 10 years and it didn't work.

"I am very confident we have held together for one year and we will continue to hold together," she said.
