Members of the CEPEP board with line minister Dr Roodal Moonilal |
In a media release Adesh Deonarine confirmed what Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar stated earlier this month when she opened a CEPEP office in Tobago.
THA Finance Secretary Dr Anselm London had stated that there was no evidence to support the Prime Minister's statement about the CEPEP funds.
Deonarine stated that on Friday, 12th June 2009, the CEPEP Company Limited electronically transferred $2,948,608.00 to the account of the Tobago House of Assembly at the Tobago branch of First Citizens Bank.
He said three days after that the THA returned the money, via electronic transfer, to the account of the CEPEP Company Limited at the St Vincent Street, Port of Spain branch of the bank. Deonarine said the money is still in the CEPEP account.
