Energy Minister, Carolyn Seepersad-Bachan said on Sunday government is considering a plan to build a major petrochemical project in La Brea. She said the cabinet will take a decision on the matter by September.
She was speaking with reporters during a visit to a medical clinic in La Brea.
“As you know, we do have requests for proposals out for Methanol to Petrochemicals and Methanol to Olefins," she said.

"Methanol to Petrochemicals will allow us to develop a pharmaceutical industry downstream. Methanol to olefins will allow us to develop a plastics industry downstream. We are hoping one of those projects will be sited here in this area," she added.
Seepersad-Bachan said Government’s approach is to ensure that Corporate Social Responsibility forms an integral part of developing industries alongside communities.

"Once that project is sited here, again, the companies involved must take their Corporate Social Responsibility seriously and this is how they will gain points in the evaluation process in order to be selected to become the preferred project in this area," she said.
