The government of Trinidad and Tobago confirmed on Thursday that the Parliament would be relocated from the Red House to the nearby International Financial Complex to allow UDeCOTT to complete repairs to the historic building.
The move will be for an extended period of three years to complete the project.
Former Prime Minister Patrick Manning had planned to move the office of the PM to the Red House. However on assuming office Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar scrapped that idea and said the 100-year-old building would remain the seat of Parliament
UDeCOTT had recommended the relocation in order to complete the restoration works.
The Senate will have its own chamber in the refurbished building, which would allow both houses of Parliament to sit simultaneously.
